data:[...] Base64 | Last week, Luigi joined fellow founding members of the Oakland Restaurant Marketing Collective at Coffee, Cocktails & Conversation, hosted by Chef Nelson German at @sobremesaoak. The gathering brought together restaurateurs and changemakers across Oakland to celebrate and uplift The Town’s restaurant community. 🍴
During the course of the evening, @chefnel4, @bossmanafco, Paul Iglesias, and @luigidiruocco shared their vision for the city’s future, united by a commitment to showcase Oakland as a culinary destination that is best enjoyed in person.
Their goal is to form a powerful collective that supports Oakland restaurants and draws more attention to The Town’s incredible culinary community. 🧡 The Oakland Restaurant Collective will work in partnership with @visitoakland, the @oaklandchamber of Commerce and other partners to continue their efforts to drive the local community and visitors to Oakland.

For decades, they’ve proudly served @mrespressooak in both their signature Drip Coffee and the sweet, spiced Café de Olla, both favorites during their busy weekend brunch. 🌞☕️
We recently caught up with Picante’s owner, Jim Maser, to talk about Mexican cookery and his love for coffee. Here’s what he shared with us:
“I’ve been visiting Mexico for over 50 years, particularly Veracruz and Chiapas, where coffee is grown along the coast. During my time there, I developed a deep appreciation for the distinct flavor profiles of Mexican coffee.
At Picante, being a Mexican restaurant, we wanted to honor and respect the rich history of Mexican cookery. Naturally, that meant serving coffee from Mexico, and about 10 years ago, Mr. Espresso helped us source beans from Chiapas.
The Mexico Mayan Village beans, produced by Rosalba Cifuentes and the women farmers of Bella Vista, are now part of our drip coffee program, and they’re exceptional. It’s truly an honor for the restaurant to serve this coffee, not only for its flavor but for the story and effort behind it.
Having tasted coffees from around the world through the Coffee Association of America, I always come back to Mr. Espresso. Their coffees are simply the best, and this one is no exception.”
