...eed-pro/img/placeholder.png?w=1080&ssl=1Day in the Life: 2nd Officer Isabela shows us what night watch is like from start to finish. The crew sleep 6 to a cabin and use privacy curtains when they sleep. Each crew member has a bunk and a locker. Officers do 4 hour, rotating watches, along with an ancillary crew member who rotate every 2 hours. There is always an officer at the helm and an extra set of eyes by another crew member. During all watches, the crew must log hourly: wind, sky, waves, temperature, weather, and any radar activity. Aside from night watches, the crew also has daily chores and jobs - but we do sneak in a few naps along the way. Never stop. Stay connected. #saltycrew #boatlife #nightwatch 🎥 @paulamosa_
...eed-pro/img/placeholder.png?w=1080&ssl=1Booby rescue on deck! Our science and deck team helped the little guy mend a busted wing. They will keep an eye on it and release it when it’s ready to fly. Never stop. Stay connected! Especially to nature. ***Always help those in trouble. Our job as humans is to take care of our animal friends and our planet whenever we can. ...eed-pro/img/placeholder.png?w=1080&ssl=1We are aware of the news that Paul Watson has been arrested in Greenland on charges related to his opposition to whaling. ...eed-pro/img/placeholder.png?w=1080&ssl=1**BREAKING NEWS*** Welcome to Bajos Del Norte: A new National Park decreed by Mexico this June 2024 in the Gulf of Mexico. This monumental decision by CONANP to protect it's Gulf's most endangered regions should be an example to all nations. Our new mission is to protect, monitor, and clean it's millions of acres of reef and sea. You’ll see some familiar faces and some familiar boats; we look forward to bringing you with us. Never Stop. Stay Connected. #newnationalpark #nationalpark #gulfofmexico
...eed-pro/img/placeholder.png?w=1080&ssl=1We’re Gonna Need a Bigger Crane Pt 2: This net was not budging. After several hours and plotting, the crew and navy decided to try our crane. To prevent the net from getting in the rudder, the Seahorse had to keep its distance. Once secured to the crane, the crew waited for any tension in the line to stop so they could assist in pulling it in. The line never slacked. Our crane is able to hold 1 ton but this was far bigger. The captain made the difficult call to stop operations and find a new plan. We are grateful he looks out for the crews’ safety first. Once we have the new crane, situations like this will be much easier. The net left behind is not active, it's in a knotted ball unable to catch sea life. This is Part 2 of 2 Never stop. Stay Connected! Currently, the Seahorse can pull nets up to a ton of discarded nets, but this summer we will be installing a new crane that will triple our net pulling capacity up to 3 tons. That new crane and its installation will cost $150,000, and it will allow us to triple a proven, effective model for ocean protection. This month your donations will be matched up to $150,000 thank to a generous donor! #MGC #illegalfishing #ghostnets #oceanwarriors 🎥 by @paulamosa_
...eed-pro/img/placeholder.png?w=1080&ssl=1We’re Gonna Need a Bigger Crane Pt 1: The Seahorse crew found a large and very heavy ghost net. Sometimes a ghost net operation can take hours to days. Here we show you just how our crew works to pull these nets out. Patience and teamwork is the key. No net is ever pulled the same way, the crew and the Navy must strategize constantly. It also helps to have great captains at the helm. This is Part 1 of 2 Stay tuned! Never stop. Stay Connected! Currently, the Seahorse can pull nets up to a ton of discarded nets, but this summer we will be installing a new crane that will triple our net pulling capacity up to 3 tons. This video shows how the science team worked together on 3 different boats to locate vaquitas and collect DNA samples from the water they swam in. This was not easy and took many hours. Most days the team saw nothing. Never Stop! Stay Connected. ...eed-pro/img/placeholder.png?w=1080&ssl=1Faroe Islands Crew Diaries: Today we focus on another myth about the Grind: whale meat is a source of food for the poor or needy and it's better than importing food. Slaughtered whale meat is divided and shared amongst the community, but so little is used or eaten; the number of whales killed is more than the people eating it. Whale meat is also toxic and is not consumed by many Faroese. Our research, over many years, shows that food imports do not decrease with the Grind, they remain the same. With over 50 grocery stores (1 for every 1k people), waste is abundant, like any wealthy nation. Having a variety of food year around means waste. On the crew’s off time, they rehouse delicious food waste! They eat it themselves and offer free food to anyone in the Faroe Islands, even delivering it to those who ask. Never Stop. Stay Connected. Visit Stopthegrind.org for more information. #foodwaste #stopthegrind #endwhaling

...eed-pro/img/placeholder.png?w=1080&ssl=1We went to Washington D.C for the annual State of the Ocean Conference and campaign brief at the White House. From Milagro to the Faroes to Antarctica, we discussed our scientific data collection, documented oceanic abuse, and discarded fishing nets pulled throughout our regions we monitor. We advocate and educate leadership on the issues we face everyday. Saving the oceans takes a village and that includes law makers. For the full 2.5 hour conference, check out our Youtube link. https://youtu.be/3WrrqaWUO3U?si=CFJeaI5pcqu1cB7W #washington #oceanadvocacy #whitehouse @djiglobal

...eed-pro/img/placeholder.png?w=1080&ssl=1In just 8 weeks, 592 whales have been brutally slaughtered. The annual average is close to 1000, so we still have a long summer ahead of us. Sick of seeing this? So are we. But social media has power. It’s a new era. The world is watching. There is no easy solution to ending this brutality or the incredible amount of waste dumped back into the sea. The older generation of whalers are holding on to their tradition like their lives depend on it; doing their best to inspire the younger generation to join in. So many other Faroese do not participate and remain uninvolved. It’s a battle for a violent tradition tied to identity, culture, and their right to take what they want. They believe they are abiding by nature. They do not see nature the way we see it. Nature is there for them to take. Some days we are optimistic and other days not so much. But we believe there needs to be a strategic opposition to this cruelty, and until we see a local voice that can carry the weight, then we must keep working. Never Stop. Stay Connected! #stopthegrind #whaling #waste
